The Sierra Morena
As you ride across the Sierra Morena mountain range — stretching across northern Andalusia and bordering Extremadura — you will discover one of Spain’s most wild, untouched, and breathtaking regions.
Far removed from crowded coastlines and bustling historic cities, this vast land remains largely unexplored. Its dramatic scenery reveals rolling hills, deep valleys, dense cork oak forests, and endless olive groves — offering the perfect backdrop for a riding adventure with beautifully diverse landscapes.
Renowned for its rich wildlife, the Sierra Morena is home to the largest population of Iberian lynx, a species that has made a remarkable recovery after once facing extinction. With a bit of luck, you may even catch a glimpse of this elusive feline. Riding in this area gives you the rare chance to experience a Spain that few ever see.
Meet George: Sharing a lifetime in the saddle through Andalusia
Born in Seville, George Scott has lived and breathed the Andalusian way of life since childhood. He grew up on his family’s finca, Trasierra — later stylishly refined by his mother, Charlotte, into a much-loved country house and guest retreat, cherished by those seeking a hideaway far from the rush of modern life.
A natural rider since he was a boy, George spent his early years exploring the wild, unspoilt countryside on horseback, learning local folklore from the people who know it best. The hills of the Sierra Morena held no secrets for him and his childhood friends.
In recent years, with the permission of neighbouring landowners, he has been re-discovering — and in some areas painstakingly restoring — old cattle-driving routes, many of which had not been ridden for decades.
Today, he welcomes you to share the Andalusian lifestyle he treasures and to explore the Spanish countryside in an utterly unique and authentic way.
ThE HORSES
On this safari, you will be riding Anglo-Arabs, Hispano-Arabs, and Andalusian horses — each carefully selected and trained by your riding guide George from trusted breeders across Spain.
The Hispano-Arab, a traditional Spanish breed, is the result of crossing Andalusian and Arabian horses. Originally bred for cattle work, it blends the Andalusian’s agility and strength with the Arabian’s remarkable endurance and speed — making it an exceptional partner for long trails and technical terrain.
The Anglo-Arab, one of the world’s oldest established breeds, comes from crossing English Thoroughbreds with Arabian horses. Known for their stamina, lightness, and versatility, Anglo-Arabs have long proven themselves as reliable mounts for both sport and trail riding.
The Andalusian, or Pure Spanish Horse, is celebrated for its intelligence, beauty, agility, and natural talent for dressage. Deeply rooted in Andalusian culture, it remains a symbol of pride and tradition across the country.
Throughout your safari, you will ride primarily in Potrera saddles — a hybrid between Western and English styles, designed for long hours on the trail. Their shape offers excellent comfort for the rider while ensuring the horses’ well-being.
About this ride
Nomad Riders in Sierra Morena
For a few years now, Spain has undoubtedly become the country of my heart. During the four years I lived there, I gradually fell in love with its culture, its warm welcome (and weather..), its slower pace, and its incredible variety of landscapes. So when I heard about this “incredible riding safari” in Andalusia, I immediately reached out to George to visit — and what I experienced went far beyond my expectations.
On the very first meters of the trail, chatting on horseback, I could feel George’s genuine passion for sharing his homeland with others. Riding spirited Hispano-Arab horses, that he personally selects from trusted breeders across Spain and trains specifically for the trails was an absolute bliss. I was also struck by the element of surprise woven into the experiences George crafts: At every hoofbeat, you never quite know what you’re going to discover, and yet it never fails to delight. Every little detail is carefully thought out to ensure the most unique, comfortable, and unforgettable experience: the delicate flowers on the table, the gathering around music after dinner, the board of jamón waiting as you dismount, or the blanket laid out on the grass for your post-lunch nap. These touches might sound superfluous, but they echo a Da Vinci quote I’ve always kept close: “Details make perfection, and perfection is not a detail.”
